Thank you cyclonoid! I had to type instructions for a friend, hope you don't mind that I share them here:
Disconnect from the Internet before installing the program.
Install, finish setting up but don't run the program just yet.
Block the executable from gaining access to the Internet, use the Windows firewall.
Open Artrage, enter the serial number (it's included in the download).
DO NOT register the program, cancel out of that.
Go to: Edit, Artrage Preferences, Automatic Updates and untick: Auto Update Check.
Close the program, connect to the Internet and start using it.
Disconnect from the Internet before installing the program.
Install, finish setting up but don't run the program just yet.
